Welcome, I am so glad you came to my website.
I’m Beth Hastings, a Licensed Professional Counselor serving individuals (13+), couples, and families throughout New Jersey. I offer Christ-centered care to people facing life's struggles, based on the hope, compassion and transforming power of the gospel.
For over 15 years, I’ve helped clients navigate depression, anxiety, marriage conflict, emotional pain, trauma, spiritual struggles, life transitions, and more. My desire is to create a warm, safe environment where I extend Christ’s love and acceptance to my clients. Here you can tell your story and feel heard, understood, and cared for—not judged or rushed. I believe meaningful change happens when people are met with both grace and truth.
Why I Became a Counselor
As you have probably discovered, we live in a broken world, where things are not the way they are supposed to be. Yesterday did not go the way you planned, today will not be what you hoped for, and thought of tomorrow may be more than you can bear. I know this not only as a counselor, but also through my own life experiences.
People often ask me why I became a counselor. My answer is simple: God prepared me for this calling using both blessings and difficulties over many years. Through these seasons of challenge, growth, disappointment and refinement God has taught me to depend upon him, seek his face, and discover his faithfulness in the midst of life’s challenges.
These experiences have deepened my compassion for others and gave me a greater understanding of the burden’s others carry. They have strengthened my desire to walk alongside others and help carry their burdens as they navigate difficult circumstances. One of the greatest privileges of my work is helping people find hope when life feels overwhelming by helping them discover that lasting change is possible.
My Counseling Approach
My counseling style is grace-filled, non-judgemental, thoughtful, and practical. I seek to understand people, their struggles, and the process of change through the lens of Scripture while also drawing upon sound clinical wisdom and research.
Together we will explore the challenges you are facing, the factors that may be contributing to them, and the practical steps that can help you move forward. I help clients better understand their hearts, emotions, thought patterns, sin, relationships, and life experiences while developing healthier ways of coping, communicating, and responding to others. I also help them cultivate a more intimate relationship with God.
Clients often come to counseling feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, disconnected, or emotionally distraught. Over time, many begin experiencing greater emotional stability, healthier relationships, renewed hope, and a deeper sense of clarity, direction, purpose and spiritual growth.
Christian Counseling with Clinical Wisdom
As a seminary-trained biblical counselor, my faith shapes the way I understand people, suffering, relationships, healing, and hope. I believe God as revealed in Scripture speaks meaningfully to the deepest questions of life and that his Word provides wisdom, guidance, comfort, and direction for people facing emotional, relational, and spiritual struggles.
For clients who desire it, I thoughtfully incorporate biblical truth into the counseling process, helping them apply the wisdom of Scripture to the challenges they are facing. In addition, I pray for clients who desire it. The ultimate goal is not simply symptom relief, although that is often part of the process. The deeper goal is to remove the causes of the symptoms by helping people know, trust, love, and follow Christ more fully.
Education and Training
I earned my Master's Degree in Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, where I received extensive training in counseling, theology, and the application of Scripture to everyday life. My additional professional training includes: A Certificate in Advanced Professional Counseling, Biblical Seminary; Post-Graduate Counseling Coursework, Alliance Graduate School of Counseling; Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Level II Training; and Advanced Biblical Counseling Training through the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation (CCEF)
CCEF's counseling model seeks to apply the wisdom of Scripture to the complexities of everyday life with humility, compassion, and care. This training continues to shape my understanding of people and the counseling process.
I also believe that God, through His common grace, has provided valuable insights through psychological research and clinical practice. As a result, I thoughtfully incorporate evidence-based approaches that are consistent with my Christian worldview, including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT); Trauma-Informed Care; Somatic and Emotional Regulation Strategies
For couples, I utilize Gottman Method Couples Therapy, one of the most respected and research-supported approaches to marriage counseling available today. Gottman Method Couples Therapy helps couples improve communication, strengthen friendship, rebuild trust, navigate conflict more effectively, and deepen emotional connection.
Many clients appreciate that my approach is both spiritually grounded and clinically informed, offering practical tools, compassionate support, and thoughtful biblical insight in a way that is neither harsh nor simplistic.
